Robin Bigio

Robin specializes in helping clients make their ideas come to life, aestheti- cally and functionally. From IDEO's London office, he has collaborated with clients on projects ranging from brand expression and design language to consumer electronics. Prior to joining IDEO, Robin earned a BA in Product Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London. In 2005 he joined Renault Design in Paris to work in the Human Machine Interfaces department.

Dr. Lorne Buchman

Dr. Buchman’s presidency of Art Center marks his return to art and design education. Previously, Dr. Buchman served as Provost, then President of California College of Arts and Crafts. There he spearheaded the 1994 strategic plan that led to the creation of its renowned San Francisco campus and was instrumental in the success of the historic capital campaign that made the new facility possible. He is currently overseeing the implementation of Art Center’s 2011-2016 strategic plan.

Allan Chochinov

Allan Chochinov is the Chair and co-founder of the SVA MFA in Products of Design Program. He writes widely on design education and the impact of design on contemporary culture. Allan lectures around the world and at professional conferences and is also a partner of Core77, a design network serving a global community of designers and design enthusiasts. He is the editor-in-chief of Core77.com, the widely read design website. Prior to Core77, his work in product design focused on the medical and diagnostic fields as well as on consumer products and workplace systems.

Terry Irwin

Terry Irwin is Head of the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University. She is interested in design for sustainability, and her research explores how living systems principles can inform traditional design process. Irwin sees design as playing an important role in the transition to a sustainable society. Her areas of research interest focus on worldview as the basis for design for sustainability, and examines the aspects of an ecological worldview for designers.

Dr. Pardis Mahdavi

Pardis Mahdavi, PhD is associate professor of anthropology at Pomona College. Her research interests include labor, migration, gender, sexuality, human rights, youth culture, transnational feminism and public health in the context of changing global and political structures. Her first book, Passionate Uprisings: Iran’s Sexual Revolution (Stanford Press 2008) looked at the intersection between sexuality and politics in post-revolutionary Iran, while her current work looks at gendered migration, labor and human trafficking in the United Arab Emirates.

Yana Mouradian

Yana supervises all aspects of The Sport and Art Educationa Foundation (SAEF), championing the ideology that creative activites combat the symptoms of brain deiseases such as Alzheimer's, improve cognition, and provide patients a hope for the future. Yana holds a master's degree in philosphy, is fluent in three languages and has a multicultural background which has endowed her with a unique understanding of Los Angeles' diverse community, of which she is working to serve.

Doug Powell

Doug Powell is a designer, strategist, entrepreneur and the creative visionary for Schwartz Powell, leading successful projects for a wide range of clients and collaborative partners in health and nutrition, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Lifescan, and Pepsico. Doug also consults with a variety of cross-disciplinary teams on design-driven entrepreneurial projects. Doug is the national president of AIGA, the professional association for design. With more than 22,000 members in 66 local chapters, AIGA is the largest design organization in the U.S.

Dr. Jerry Schubel

Dr. Schubel became President and Chief Executive Officer of the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California in June 2002. Prior to that he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the New England Aquarium from 1994 to 2001, and Dean and Director of the Marine Sciences Research Center of the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 1974 to 1994. He is a director of the International Resources Group and Institute for Learning Innovation.

Jasmina Tesanovic

Jasmina is a Serbian author, feminist, political activist (Women in Black, Code Pink), translator, and filmmaker. Back in the nineties, during the darkest moments of the Milosevic regime, when every freedom of expression was suffocated by blaring nationalist propaganda, the dissident founders of the legendary B92 radio, driven to bold desperation, decided that their line of work would have to become "hardcore nonsense."

Cameron Tonkinwise

Chair, Design Thinking and Sustainability

Cameron Tonkinwise’s research and professional activities integrate the philosophy of design with a concern for sustainability. His work focuses on the design of commercial and nonmarket systems for shared product use, exploring how the emerging discipline of service design might facilitate the development of less-material-dependent economies. In his current research, Mr. Tonkinwise is investigating perceptions of convenience and autonomy in shifts from ownership to usership.

Victor Hugo Zayas

Painter and Sculptor

Victor Hugo Zayas (Art Center alumnus), is best known for his paintings, vigorous depictions of landscapes and cityscapes, as well as still life and figural subjects that mediate between realism and expressionism. He frequently works on a very large scale, rendering otherwise modest subjects—views of industrial buildings, arrangements of flowers—dynamic and heroic. Zayas is equally accomplished as a sculptor, his most recent retrospective exhibition “Mi Obra” (2012) has received world press coverage.
